Rome is an incredibly beautiful city. Everywhere you go there is a 2,000 year old building. And the weather is wonderful too. It is a Mediterranean Climate so every day is sunny with a slight breeze and never above 80 degrees. Every day we are just in awe and we keep thinking my god the ruins we see at home are less than a 1,000 years old and there are crumbling to pieces!!
Day 2: The Colosseum
Here we are so happy to be seeing this World Wonder. And it wasn't the only wonder we saw that day. Believe it or not, I ran into one of my 5th Grade students here! We were all bewildered, what are the odds?!
The ground floor of the Colosseum is not a stage as depicted in Gladiator. Part of it is a stage but the rest is like a maze of grottoes. It is really strange but I guess it was part of the games. They can manipulate the staging area to make it harder and more interesting.
The Colosseum is part of an area called the Roman Forum. The Forum is where the markets, temples, government, etc. was located. Basically the city centre in ancient times. Below is Cesar's grave.
Here is a depiction of a very famous event in Roman History: The Rape of the Sabine Women. The other picture is of me next to the Temple of Saturn.
Here is a picture of the Colosseum taken from Palatine Hill- the place where Romulus & Remus founded the city of Rome.
We also stopped and saw the Spanish Steps that day. For the life of me I don't know why they are so famous but we saw them.
