Roma: Day 7

Tips for travelers to Rome:

1. The Metros, Buses, and Trains are great--use them!
2. Public Transportation does not take you everywhere, be prepared to walk....A LOT
3. Buy a Roma Pass, best decision ever!!
4. Rome is a tourist town so expect people to hound you to buy things all the time.
5. Reiterate above PLUS everything is closed on Mondays!  This makes it really hard to plan an itinerary when you really want to go to Tarquinia but the god danged place isn't open so you have to literally run from train to train and hurriedly come up with something else to do since you have already bought this train ticket and are now out $13 euros.  Completely aggravating, don't recommend planning to do anything on Mondays!

Roma Day 7: Cerveteri

On our 2nd day of adventure outside of the city we had originally planned to go to Tarquinia.  BUT, as luck would have it we had an extra day to see something else AND Tarquinia.  So Sunday we were so happy to be able to go to Cerveteri, an Etruscan necropolis 90 minutes outside of Rome.  The thought here was that then we could go to Tarquinia on Monday (see above to reiterate my sentiments on that matter).  After literally running from the Cerveteri Metro Line to the Tarquinia Train Track about 3 times trying to come up with a plan, we ended up going to Cerveteri.  Jeff's decision because I couldn't make up my mind.  :)

We ended up having a great time!  We were the only people inside the entire Necropolis park area and the weather was amazing.  The tombs were really cool.  They are about 3000 years old and some of them still had beautiful painted frescoes inside.  Absolutely amazing!

We got back from Cerveteri in the late afternoon and decided we had some time to kill so we thought we would make the trek back out to Appia Antica.  On Sundays there is no traffic so it was much more pleasant.  The road is still the original paving in some places and it was pretty neat to walk down such a historic path.
